» Massachusetts Voc-ed Student Population
Hi, I am searching, without luck, for the following. Massachusetts has approximately 80,410 ninth graders in their public high schools. There are 97 Chapter 74 approved Massachusetts vocational-technical high schools. The questions are: (1) Within the vocational-technical high schools how many students are in the ninth grade? (2) Within the vocational-technical high schools how many of those ninth graders reside in a rural community? (3) How many reside in an urban community? and (4) How many reside in a suburban community? That's it. I hope someone can help? Thanks!I think about half of the students will be boarderline between the three categories you mentioned unless Massachusetts has defined these terms tightly and discussed exce...... - 2008-11-17
» Plugin question
I use win95, AOl on a dialup. On my ignore host section of the plugin, does the plugin accept some kind of wild cards like 172.171.*.* 172.210.*.* 172.*.*.* I get a new IP address each time connect to AOL. This would really help.yes, blockpost support wildcards, but it support wildcards in different way - via network masks. in other words, if you want to block 172.171.*.* you must enter 172.171.0.0/255.255.0.0Riaahater1, Blockpost does not have an IgnoreHosts section - the only plugin that does is Attack Detection (in its protect.lst file). This does support ranges via network masks as Dmut has said - the network mask flags which binary digits have to match so 255.255.255.255 (all bits) means the exact address while 0.0.0.0 (...... - 2008-11-17

I'm going to need to mail out some matted prints (likely 11x14's including mat). Does anyone have advise for an easy way to mail them so that they won't bend? If not I'll package it myself and take it to FedEx.Would putting cardboard behind the print work?Yeah if I have to package them myself, I'll probably box em up. I just wasn't sure if anyone knew of any service (UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL) that offered something specifically for sending pics. Just curious ... » FLASH! How our brain sees the future?
How our brain sees the future? No, I'm not talking about people who say they can predict the future, such as fortune-tellers. On the contrary, this post is about a process that our brain is using extensively and routinely. When you think about your next meal at a favorite restaurant, your brain 'creates' images for you. Now, researchers have found that we're using the same areas of our brain to remember the past and envision the future. Even if this doesn't lead to practical applications, it indicates that people who clearly remember stories from their past are better equipped to imagine their future than people suffering from amnesia for example. "In our daily lives, we probably spend more time envisioning what we're going to do to...... - 2008-11-17

» Any idea what this is called?
When we lived in Jeddah we used to occasionally get a local food that was made on a large flat hotplate (usually outdoors - or in a small stall). There were two varieties, one was a banana and flour base that was made like a large pancake and then, when done, cut up into smaller squares and sold to customers. Another variety was egg-based and some vegetable and flour mix...I think. It was cooked and sold the same way. And it was very very good. My wife can come up with the banana based one that is close enough but we haven't got a clue what the ingredients for the other one is - or even remember what it was called. It was quite a drive from where we lived on the north edge of the city, so we didn't get it often. Too many good Lebane...... - 2008-11-17

I'm not sure how often the Wiki get's updated, so I though I'd ask here ... has audio down mixing (playing 5.1 source on 2 speakers for example) been implemented yet in the Windows version of XBMC? I believe it has been in the Linux version, but I'm having quite a few challanges with configuring my laptop and Ubuntu, so I'm thinking of using the Windows version ... but if down mixing hasn't been implemented yet that might be a problem  for me right now. Thanks, HarryI *think* it works for AC3, but not for anything else. On linux you have alsa that can do it for you (not sure if it has been setup out of the box to do it though). » The Japan Rail Pass, one of the world's greatest sightseeing bargains ?
According to Simon Calder who writes for The Independent, The Japan Rail Pass is one of the world's greatest sightseeing bargains. I don't know who that guy is, but he is visibly new and not very well informed about Japan. I am surprised that such a reputed newspaper as the Independent would let him write such things ! Let me quote a few passages from his article A fast-track travel plan (http://travel.independent.co.uk/mideastandasia/japan/article13531.ece) But I quickly learnt that you need no platinum credit card to survive in 21st-century Tokyo. Low-cost accommodation is easy: if you prefer not to turn Japanese in your capsule hotel, you can check into a cut-price hostel. Is it possible for a link to be on my site and the script spiders to that site and search that site as well. For example. IF my site is MYSITE.COM and on my home page I have GREATSITE.COM can the search script search that site as well?Yes it is. There are a couple of ways to do this. 1.) If you want all links between the two sites to be indexed, the best way would be to use multiple base URLs. For example, you may have a start point of "http://www.mysite.com/" with a base URL of "http://www.mysite.com/;http://www.greatsite.com/". This would allow all links between the two domains to be followed by the spider. 2.) Hat tip to Senior Moderator Fla Medic http://afludiary.blogspot.com/ Bird Flu Resurfaces In Northern Laos # 1646 It was almost a year ago when two Laotians died in March of 2007 from the H5N1 bird flu virus. Since then, there were some reports of poultry die offs in the spring, and of culling, but little other news from that nation. Today the Vientiane Times is reporting that bird flu related poultry deaths have been recently recorded in the northern part of that nation. Thus far, no human cases have been reported. » The All-American XI
The bigsoccer phenomenon of the 2004 MLS season comes to a Stats and Analysis board near you. No, it's not quantitative, and yes, there are going to be biases, but there's also evidence that heterogeneous groups can make some pretty good judgments about things like this. At least for its second two thirds, the AAXI team tried to do exactly that. First, to address what is probably the most obvious bias: tv time. Below are the number of AAXI elections and % American minutes for the ten MLS teams: Chicago 37 81.6 Colorado 22 81.2 Columbus 38 84.8 D.C. United 41 73.5 Dallas 27 73.0 Kansas City 30 83.2 Los Angeles 25 65.5 Metrostars 42 65.9 New England 29 71.4 San Jose 28 81.5 Total 319 76.1 From ...... - 2008-11-17

I see that if I right-click on a tag, there's a greyed out Edit Tag. I've tried selecting about everything I can think of on the screen, it remains greyed out. Any kind clues will be appreciated. » text over video in powerpoint
The big question everyone has and the one downfall of powerpoint seems to be: how on earth do you put text over video in powerpoint? The answer is: powerpoint does not support text over video. But there are a couple of ways around it so that you can in a sense get text over video in powerpoint. One is the fact that you can use animated gifs in powerpoint and you can lay text over animated gifs. You must insert the gif as an image and it will display as an animation in the background of text. However, animated gifs are small and really cant be used as backrounds. To fix this, you need a program that can convert video to animated gifs. I reccomend Alchemy Mindworks' Gif construction set. See webpage (http://www.mindworkshop.com/alchemy/gifcon...... - 2008-11-17
» More MLS Demographics
Obviously, this is something that I find interesting, and it's something that I think is very important to the future of the league. Most obviously, because we all want MLS to contribute to the improvement of the national team. And, the more Americans that are playing in MLS, the more it will contribute to the team's improvement. Also, however, I think it's possible (at least, potentially) to measure the improvement of the league through its demographic changes. Although a lot of people like to claim that the league needs to import more foreigners (and spend more money) to improve the quality, I think the amount of foreigners willing to play in the league is a good indication of how good the league is; in 1996, there was no problem ...... - 2008-11-17

» Moving Existing 401(k) Contributions to Roth 401(k)
My current employer will likely begin offering employees a Roth 401(k) option for 2006. For the past two years, I have contributed the maximum to the company's regular 401(k). Beginning in 2006, I will be on extended leave from the company while I complete a PhD. So while I am still an employee, I will be drawing no salary in the coming years. As such, now seems like a good opportunity for me to convert my 401(k) tax-deferred contributions to a Roth-type account, as I will be in the lowest income tax bracket for the next several years. Will I be able to move the contributions and earnings that I have already made with the regular 401(k) to the Roth 401(k) - in a similar manner to how one would move money from a Traditional to a Ro...... - 2008-11-17

Hello, Our forum is relatively large and running on a single dedicated server. We have limited funds so buying another server is out of the question. I am hoping we can find some optimizations that we can make so that our site will run more smoothly. » John Kerry on the HEALTH Act of 2003
Republicans claim that the Help Efficient, Accessible, Low-cost, Timely Healthcare Act of 2003 [or HEALTH Act] would encourage manufacturers to produce viable vaccines and is critical to the industry as it saves manufacturers considerable money in an industry with minimal profit margins. Now I understand the bill to be a step towards medical tort reform but Democrats along with Kerry opposed this because they generally don't believe that a cap on pain and suffering awards would keep doctors' insurance rates in check. So my question is, was this bill ever passed and why would Kerry be justified in opposing it? Sounds like he was standing up for patients' rights by not allowing a cap on malpractice suits. I don't feel like doing anything!there is a condition called SAD. seasonal affective disorder, its a disorder where people who are OK mentally throughout the year experience depressive symptoms throughout winter. on a more personal level, YES i do! if its rainey and cold then im usually bored and miserable sunny and bright (doesnt have to be hot) then im ok. i think it does, a bit.. and this is based on my personal observation, no offence intended. if u c people leaving in cold areas yearly like in russia for exp, the people there tend to be cold themselves! while people leaving in lush green tropical climate tend to...... - 2008-11-17
» Manga and dialects (non-standard Japanese)
I noticed long time ago that Japanese in mangas doesn't seem to follow standard Japanese, which makes them harder for foreigners to understand. This was confirmed by some Wikipedia articles. Luckily, the article said it was one particular dialect - Kansai-ben (which may include some other subdialects). Since Kansai-ben is the most widely known nonstandard dialect of Japanese, it has become a favorite with Japanese authors, manga and anime artists, and the like, as the choice for representing a somewhat "different" character from the norm. The use of Kansai-ben is closely associated with manzai and comedy in general throughout most of non-Kansai Japan. This is due both to the prevalence of comedians from Osaka in Japanese media as compared...... - 2008-11-17

» How long will this burn take to heal?
About 5 months ago, I got burned by a pressurized air duster (the thing you use to clean in between the keys on a keyboard). It has a liquid nitrogen type thing in the bottom of the can. I have been applying Mederma for burns everyday and it is still discolored where I got burned. How long will it take to heal?Okay if it was 5 months ago, it should be healed. Burns do not take 5 months to heal unless they are very severe-- as in, require hospitalization and skin grafts kind of severe-- or unless it's badly, badly infected (if it were, you would know. Since you didn't mention it being infected, I'm going to assume it's not). So, going by those facts, you do not have a healing burn. You have a scar. 2 completely different...... - 2008-11-17

Hi there. I'm using MS Word 2003. I want to use horizontal margin for my header and footer that differs from the body text. i.e. left header/footer margin .25" right header/footer margin .25" left body margin 1.0" right body margin 1.0" Can this be done? thxI think the best way to accomplish that would be to (rather) set your left and right paragraph indent on your header/footer to negative. » "There is already an open DataReader associated with this connection" VB/ASP.NET
We are having a problem with mysterious open data readers appearing where they shouldn't. Our program, written in VB for ASP.NET, is quite extensive but here's a simplified description. A connection is opened, and a transaction is begun. A series of things can occur, including reads (using the DataReader), inserts, updates, and deletes. Then the transaction is either committed or rolled back. There are no datareaders inside of this transaction that are not closed after using. The problem is that sometimes (and only under load...not even load that should really stress the servers, but it never appears on a desktop when being tested by one person) we get an error that says "Server Error in '/' Application.

Thanks, HarryI *think* it works for AC3, but not for anything else. On linux you have alsa that can do it for you (not sure if it has been setup out of the box to do it though). 2.) » The All-American XI

» Nice Kanji Dictionary
Found a great Japanese-English kanji dictionary on this sitehttp://www.jishop-software.com Has a neat radical table that you can select from and search for kanji, or you can search by words! Check it out! http://www.jishop-software.com/jishoplogo.gifI wanted to add a further discussion about learning kanji. Learning kanji is pretty difficult if you don't have some way to group them. There's an article on this site 'Mnemonics' which details a way of learning kanji in their onyomi groups. Rather than learning each one individually, it's much better to take a group of Japanese kanji with the same reading and link them via some kind of colourful story, and pictures today. This makes learning the kanji a much more colourful experien...... - 2008-11-17

I am trying to make xbmc navigation slightly easier for all members of the household. My questions are: 1. Is there a way when selecting my music to always start mymusiclibrary at the root directory (ie genres, artists, albums etc). Right now it goes back to the last browsed directory. 2. When going back from the default music or video directory, is there a way to go straight to the home screen and avoid the screen with all of the sources? Thanks for any responses.1: Not as far as I know. 2: I think the back button on the controller does this HTH JYes I really diid search before posting but I came acrosss this post today that answered question number one.

The morphology, or the shape the bacteria take, as seen under the microscope help in determining the species of strep, such as s.pyogenes, s.viridians, s.pneumoniae , or the other 6,000 strains of strep! http://medic.med.uth.tmc.edu/path/00001457.htm http://www.rockefeller.edu/vaf...... - 2008-11-17
» Big Problem with MySQL
I currently run a server off of rackshack (Celeron 1.3 model with Ensim 3.1). A strange error popped up recently that I can't seem to fix. MySQL denies any user but root, access to anything. My other databases for websites do not allow their owners in. I even tested it once by temporarily granting full access (literally mirroring a root account) to one user and it still wouldn't let him into the database. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I've got a lot of people here that want their forums and sites back. Edit: My MySQL version is 3.23.41did you upgrade or change anything recently ?Originally posted by eva2000 did you upgrade or change anything recently ? Only particularly odd thing I did was import a database from my comp...... - 2008-11-17
» Promotion ideas...
Hey there, I have a quick question for you all. I live on Okinawa and my portrait business is slowing to a crawl. I also offer sports photos and I have email contact with all of my former customers for sports photos. I am trying to boost my family portrait business with some sort of promotion to have them book a session this summer. Any ideas? I am thinking of the usual discounted sitting fee but I am curious as to what works for you folks. Let me know, thanks! www.mwbphotography.com (http://www.mwbphotography.com)First question: Military? There's got to be an angle there that you haven't pursued yet. Second question: Can you hook me up with some Fuji Fortia SP?My husband and I are stationed here with the Marine Corps. » Hyundai Genesis, What do you think?
Hi everyone~ The Hyundai Genesis is a popular topic lately...Um, Hyundai states that the all new Genesis is as big as a BMW 7-series, with the peformance of a BMW 5-series, and priced like BMW 3-series...Personally, I think it's a lot of b.s, because an ultimate luxury sedan from Hyundai? It's basically a poor-man's Rolls Royce. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?Actually, Mercedes Benz is the poor man's Rolls Royce, Hyundai is the everyman's Lexus/BMW. Yes, its true that the Genesis is a large car and has a better engine and driving then the BMW 550i with a price that tops out at only $42,000 with a 375 HP V8 with the same fuel economy as a Mercedes C230. Sure you could buy a more expensive inferior European car, but why? Ju...... - 2008-11-17
» freelance professional searchers w/ expertise in the business of software
Hi - I'm interested in getting a list of freelance searchers/information intermediaries, with the thought that I would start hiring someone occasionally. Google Answers is nice, but a bit inflexible as a way of interacting. Search topics would mostly be in the area of business and the computing industry, and might involve both Internet and non-Internet sources. I'm interested in people who make their living doing this, rather than people who just do occasional searching. Someone who is both a searcher and a "virtual assistant" doing non-search tasks as well would be of particular interest. Also of particular interest is anyone based in the Chicago area. Note: I am interested in having someone do a serious search o...... - 2008-11-17

» Northampton Town
I think all you septics should become honourary Northampton Town fans for our 4th Round ties against Man U. We could open a new market, shift a few shirts stateside, and before you know it we'd be a bonefide Premiership outfit ready to take on the world! So come on, you dandy-doodles, get behind the mighty Cobblers. I wan't to see all 230 million on you become members of the Claret Army before this weekend. I've already got a lot of the BBC boys on my side. You need to not mind standing in freezing condition watching some of the worst footy you've ever seen with nothing but a cup of glucky Bovril for comfort, by the way. The Bovril will always be too hot, no matter how long you leave it, and it will burn your tongue every single time. A...... - 2008-11-17
» Is anyones mood directly connected to the weather?
Rainy/dull = depressed, Sunny = happy Yes same here! When there is no sun, I just want to lay around all day and eat!

» Header/Footer Margin
Otherwise, you'd have to have indents on all your body text, which can be a pain in the buttski....... - 2008-11-17
» Portrait enhancement?
I have a portrait I want to use to the fullest. I mean any PS work whatever that may include - high key, etc. to make it even more striking. I would apreciate your feedback/ideas/advices/(harsh but to the point) critique what I could do with it. The couple was wonderfully nice to work with and we became almost friends so I want to make something extra nice to them and get the skills and portfolio photo for myself when trying to make something extraordinary from the photo.
There is al...... - 2008-11-17
